600 – Miniature: Any technique, any design; each block must be 3 inches square or smaller. Length plus width must be equal to 30 inches or less; made by one person including the quilting.

700 – Art Quilt: Must be an original wall hanging design, made by one person. Any technique can be used; kits, patterns, block of the month are not allowed.

800 – Other Techniques: Any technique not fitting into another category, such as; hand red work, hand embroidery, whole cloth. Entry form must indicate if it was a joint effort quilted by someone other than the entrant.

900 – Modern: Quilts that are functional, minimalist, and inspired by modern design. Bold colors and modern prints may be used as well as areas of neutral color to provide negative space. Modern quilts often use asymmetry in design, improvisational piecing, the reinterpretation of traditional blocks or the lack of visible block structure. They are generally quilted simply with lines of stitching or grid patterns.

1000 – Youth/Novice: Quilt must be made entirely by someone under the age of 17 or a new quilter entering their first quilt show.

1100 – Guild and Group Challenges: This category honors the results when a quilt guild or quilt group issues a challenge to their members . The guild or group sets the rules, choosing the fabric, pattern, theme, size, etc. Each guild or group may submit only one challenge. A minimum of 4, to a maximum of 8 is required. Each quilter should fill out an entry form with appropriate pictures.

1200 – Wearable Art: Clothing or accessories; any technique; batting and quilting are required.

1300 – Home Décor: Any item used in the home, such as; table runners, pillows, placemats, pot holders, etc. Made entirely by one person, including the quilting.

Meet the Judge

Our judge for the 2018 Show is Linda McCuean.

Linda learned to sew in 4-H Club at the age of 9 and has been making quilts for more than 30 years.  After 20 years of hand quilting, she began quilting on a Gammill longarm quilting machine, and it was love at first stitch!

Linda's quilts have won top honors at many national and international quilt shows, including numerous best of show honors.  Linda's wholecloth quilt Bella was the top winner in the $100,000 Quilting Challenge 2006 and was featured on the Today Show.  Bella was designated a Masterpiece Quilt in the National Quilting Association's Master Quilt program in 2007.

Linda  is an NQA certified judge.  She enjoys presenting trunk shows of her work and teaching longarm quilting classes.  Linda and her husband, Don, live in New Galilee, PA.
